Revisiting the Methodology of Scientific and Technical Documents Appraisal: the Case of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Archives

Abstract: The current trends that influence the development of lists of documents with indication of the retention periods are defined, the results of the analysis of methodological approaches to the scientific and technical documentation appraisal developed by Russian scientists and the methodology used by a foreign research organization (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Archives) are analyzed. The differences in the domestic and foreign approachs applied for appraising scientific and technical documentation and lists of documents with indication of the retention periods developing by Russian organizations are formulated.
