History and Development of Electronic Document Management Systems

Abstract: The prerequisites for the emergence and historical development of electronic document management systems (EDMS) in Russia and abroad are considered. Chronological stages, their characteristic features and trends are highlighted. The composition of the EDMS functions in the conditions of the development of technics and technology, the regulatory framework, the users’ needs and anticipations are described.
